Damian Lillard Injured in Game 4; Bucks' Doc Rivers Says Outlook 'Not Very Promising'

Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard suffered a non-contact injury during Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round series against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

With 6:11 remaining in the first quarter of the Bucks' 129-103 loss, Lillard appeared to lose his footing while trying to control a loose ball. He fell to the court clutching his left ankle and needed assistance to leave the floor, unable to put weight on his left leg.

The Bucks later announced that Lillard would not return due to a "left lower leg injury." He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity.

This setback comes after Lillard was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in his right calf in late March — a blood clot issue that sidelined him until his return for Game 2 on April 22.

Following the injury, Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham and another staff member helped Lillard off the court, with a teammate later escorting him to the locker room. Television footage showed Lillard grabbing the back of his left calf, near the Achilles tendon.

“He’s going to have an MRI tomorrow,” Bucks head coach Doc Rivers said postgame. “Obviously it’s the lower leg, and just being honest, it’s not very promising. I knew it right away. I felt terrible for him. He tried to come back for his team — just felt bad for him.”

In six minutes of play before the injury, Lillard went scoreless but recorded two rebounds and one assist.

The Bucks entered Sunday's contest trailing 2-1 in the best-of-seven series against Indiana.

Notably, Lillard also suffered an Achilles-related injury exactly one year ago during a playoff series against the Pacers. That injury, diagnosed as a strained Achilles, forced him to miss Games 4 and 5 before returning for Game 6. It remains the only other Achilles issue Lillard has dealt with during his 13-year NBA career.
